It is a matter of pleasure to launch the Website of Gomal Zam Dam Command Area Development Project; being executed in Dera Ismail Khan and Tank districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the support of USAID. The Gomal Zam Dam (GZD) 437 feet stature, reinforced concrete gravity dam is constructed in South Waziristan Agency. The dam impounds the Gomal River - a tributary of the Indus River, at Khajori Kach, where the Gomal River passes through a narrow ravine. The Gomal Zam Dam stores precious water resource; whereas a tremendous irrigation system comprising of Main Canal (60 Kilometer), Warran Canal, 17 distributaries and 15 minors have been constructed to judiciously distribute irrigation water on 191139 acres Culturable Command Area.
I am confident that GZD project will achieve the overall objectives of the Gomal Zam Dam which are Irrigation, Flood Control and Hydro Power Generation. However, besides these; there are few high treasured national and provincial Governments basic designed objectives to be derived from the Project. Amongst these are Pakistan’s Water Vision compliance's 2025, KP’s Water Development Strategy 2010-17, to cope with the Climate Change issues, integrated agriculture practices for food security and to create the new food basket in the region.
I believe the Agriculture Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the prime curator of the whole process and main contender to harvest the real outcomes from the Gomal Zam Dam Project and its extensive Irrigation System of the Command Area.
On this occasion, I convey my affirm support to PIU-Program Implementation Unit & PMU-Program Managment Unit of the Project for effective establishment of the official Website. I am confident that the reflection of Component activities, progress status, success stories of integrated agriculture and deliberation of views on the Website will lead the Project to be a successful model for bringing green revolution in the Gomal Zam Command Area and will be a source of disseminating useful information to farming communities of DI Khan and Tank.
